If you have the slightest obsession with skincare and anti-aging (guilty!) then you too are probably familiar with the benefits of adding vitamins and supplements to your skincare regime.
As per my parents’ take on holistic health, my brother and I were taking a multivitamin long before it was encouraged by doctors. By the time I was a ten, I was well versed in the fact that our skin is the body’s largest organ. Subsequently, thanks to my mom, I became a bit of a clean beauty snob.
While what we put on our skin’s surface is super important, there truly is more than one reason why beauty comes from within. As such, over the last five years I have been incorporating vitamins and supplements with anti-aging benefits.
Between recommendations from my trusted sources and a bit of my own research, below are some of the vitamins and supplements that I have added to my anti-aging skincare regime.
Vitamin C
I have always taken vitamin C for immune health, but since learning how it also helps maintain the skin’s elasticity… I have doubled up ! Droopy skin? NO thank you.
Evening Primrose Oil
This has been super helpful in regards to preventing hormonal acne appear on my face.
Omega-3
Also known as fish oil, this supplement offers SO many health benefits. In terms of beauty benefits, omega-3 helps keep skin cells hydrated, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As such, it is also helpful in counteracting sun damage.
A note that not all fish oil is sourced equally and that you may want to be mindful of this upon selection.
Sillicon + Biotin
I have recently started using this supplement to further support my hair, skin, and nail health. It also helps wth the synthesis of collagen and elastin.
Calcium
It’s no secret that calcium is vital for women’s health. In terms of aesthetics, calcium helps maintain healthy nails and protects the skin’s barrier.
Adrenal Pro
This was recommended to me for adrenal support, which is also linked to maintaining stress. If I know that I am entering a stressful situation or time of year, I will take two extra tablets (with food) so I can bypass any unwelcome fine lines on my forehead. Basically, it’s wrinkle prevention in a bottle.
Consider this a friendly reminder that nothing and nobody is worth fine lines or wrinkles.
Multivitamin
A reminder that multivitamins are a prerequisite for adding any vitamins and supplements towards an effective anti-aging skincare regime.
also important for anti-aging Skincare …
Olive Oil
While not technically a vitamin or supplement, olive oil is equally vital and underrated in regards to anti-aging. While the health benefits from olive oil are seemingly endless, I particularly love it for preventing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Whether or not I am cooking with it, I will add a tablespoon to my morning smoothies.
A reminder that the best olive oil is extra-virgin, cold pressed and packaged in a dark glass bottle.
Collagen
It’s no secret by now that collagen offers many health benefits. In addition to strengthening hair and nails, I particularly love how it helps with skin elasticity and hydration.
I have also been adding this powder to my morning smoothies.
